Summary
A kingwood, tulipwood, walnut and fruitwood semainier, or tall chest of drawers, French, 19th century. Topped by a white-veined red marble top above seven drawers, all crossbanded. The uppermost inlaid with flutes, the remainder book-match veneered, and with fluted rounded corners. With a shaped apron with central metal mount and on cabriole front legs.
Provenance
Listed in the Inventory taken at Wimpole in 1965 in Mrs Bambridge's Bedroom (p. 8). Date of acquisition not recorded, but probably acquired by George Bambridge (1892 - 1943) and Elsie Bambridge (1896 - 1976), who purchased a largely empty Wimpole in 1938. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge.
