Summary
A white-painted and parcel-gilt side cabinet, Italian/South German, mid- to late 18th century, one of a pair. Of serpentine and tapering form. The top painted to simulate marble. The hinged door and sides carved with panel beadings, foliage and shells, highlighted with green and gilt. With shaped aprons and short cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. -- Purchased by the Bambridge's as Bavarian in origin.
Provenance
Listed in the Inventory taken at Wimpole in 1965 in Drawing Room No. 2 (p. 5). Acquired by George Bambridge (1892 - 1943) and Elsie Bambridge (1896 - 1976), who purchased a largely empty Wimpole in 1938. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge.
