Summary
A painted and parcel-gilt display cabinet, South German/Austrian, third quarter of the 18th century. Topped by a moulded cornice centred by a spray of foliate scrolls, above a pair of glazed doors and glazed canted side panels enclosing two shelves. The interior lined with paper. The lower section with paneled cupboard doors and paneled canted front corners and sides. With a moulded base rail and turned bun feet. Painted in yellow and white and with parcel gilding. -- Purchased by the Bambridge's as 'Bavarian' in origin.
Provenance
Acquired by George Bambridge (1892 - 1943) and Elsie Bambridge (1896 - 1976) - therefore, before 1943 - to house Capt. Bambridge's ceramics collection. The Bambridge's purchased a largely empty Wimpole in 1938. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge.
