Summary
Charles Bridgeman (d. 1738). Block plan survey of Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire, and ancillary buildings, c.1721, inscribed 'The General Plan' with dimensions marked, pen and ink (447 x 567mm) scale given.
Full description
With the various initial proposals for a grand parade discarded, a more detailed survey was needed of the house and the area to the north and south. This survey drawing records the external dimensions of the house - taking account of Gibbs' alterations - the church, stables, ancillary service and garden buildings and the various walled enclosures that surrounded the house. Catalogue entry adapted from David Adshead, Wimpole Architectural drawings and topographical views, The National Trust, 2007
Provenance
Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford (1689 – 1741); bequeathed by Elsie Kipling, Mrs George Bambridge (1896 – 1976), daughter of Rudyard Kipling, to the National Trust together with Wimpole Hall, all its contents and an estate of 3000 acres.
