Full description
In 1781 Philip Yorke called in John Soane to make alterations to his recently acquired London townhouse, No. 7 (now 63) New Cavendish Street. Ptolemy Dean describes the work, that, with the help of John Crace, entailed the fitting of library bookcases - designed by Soane and removed from Yorke's house on Park Street - the lining of rooms with silk and the supply of gilded mirrors. A chimneypiece, cut by James Nelson, was supplied in 1793 and, as with this drawing, relates to a second phase of work. Catalogue entry adapted from David Adshead, Wimpole Architectural drawings and topographical views, The National Trust, 2007
