Full description
In this exaggerated one-point perspective, the north and south walls of the first bay of the conservatory are 'folded back'. The flight of steps, with its scrolling ironwork balustrade. leads up to a small landing and two fully glazed doors which communicate with Soane's bookroom. This image complements Joseph Nash's view[1] which looks the other way. The circular and lozenge-shaped decorations on the treillage to either side of the door may be framed mirrors. Below them is staging for the display of potted plants.
