Summary
A near pair of carved ebony chairs, Coromandel Coast, India, circa 1660-1680. The first 20197.1.1; the second 20197.2.1; the cane seats 20197.1.2 and 20197.2.2.
Provenance
Possibly, like NT 11141, once at Hamilton Palace, the property of the William Douglas-Hamilton, 12th Duke of Hamilton (1845-1895) and sold by Christie's (17, 19 and 20 June 1882). Reputedly visible in a photograph of The Hall of Charlton House taken in 1884. Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
