Summary
Mid to late 16th century rectangular cast-iron fireback with rope edging. Centred around Royal coat of arms - Tudor royal shield with encircling garter (motto reversed: HONE SOVT QVEY ... PEN) with separate greyhound and lion supporters and crown above. Other motifs include a bird repeated in the top corners, with fleur de lys repeated in the bottom corners. The supporters of the Royal Arms date to the reign of Mary I or Elizabeth I.
