Summary
Long-case clock with green jappaned oak case decorated in red, green and gilt, with domed top, hood and door. Surmounted by three brass spire finials, with engraved brass dial below with silvered chapter ring and intricate brass spandrels, eight-day striking movement and painted arch with moon face in landscape. Gold geometric and flower designs to either side, base and edges of clock. Japanning on door panel depicting Japanese town or village, including couple and child on veranda with two peacocks on roof, with three figures above on steps of house among trees. Design on base depicts pier with several figures including woman carrying water buckets, with trees and architectural details beyond. By WIlliam Pearce of Tavistock, about 1730.
