Full description
This oil painting was created around June 1934 when Gilbert Russell was aged in his late 50s. He and his wife Maud Russell knew the artist Cathleen Mann socially and dined with her on 26 April 1934. Just over two weeks later, on 11 June, 1934 Maud's engagement diary records, "To Cathleen's Studio. See G's picture". Maud and Cathleen in particular were close friends and Cathleen was a regular visitor to the Russells' home at Mottisfont. [References to Maud's engagement diary provided by Emily Russell]
