Summary
Orphrey - Long panel of wine coloured velvet with applied stylised motifs in silk and metal thread. 16th Century with later repairs. Three oval panels, with centres replaced in gold silk satin. Remains of gold and blue silk embroidery on motifs. Scroll design border in couched metallic thread. Backing replaced with cotton rep in two pieces, bound over onto front. Worn condition, much repaired. Likely to be of Portuguese origin. Chapel textile.
