Summary
Fragment of draped bust of a man. Circa 1750 (?). The chest area of the bust is entirely preserved and heavily worn. The bust probably represented a man dressed in a cloak and a tunic. In portrait busts of females in essentially the same garments, the inner garment (tunic) usually hangs from two buttons on either side of the shoulder and thus does not make vertical folds around the neck. The bust may well be an 18th c. construction made to suit an ancient head.
