Full description
Tribute to Lord Coventry 21 Years Lord Lieutenant On Saturday 1913, Worcestershire paid tribute to the Earl of Coventry to mark his completion of 21 years’ service as Lord Lieutenant. A gathering of County Magistrates County Councillors and others had decided to have a memorial portrait of Lord Coventry to hang among those of other county worthies in the Shirehall, and a second portrait as a gift to the Countess of Coventry. Accordingly, two portraits have been painted by Mr Percy Bigland, of 29 Tile Street Chelsea. The memorial portrait which is to remain in the Shirehall, appropriately represents Lord Coventry in the uniform of a Lord Lieutenant, and his robes as a peer over them. These robes are said to have descended from generation to generation in the family since the time of Charles II. The second portrait, which is for presentation to the Countess of Coventry, shows his Lordship (by his special desire) in an ordinary frock coat. Dudley Chronicle, Saturday December 6 1913
