Summary
Bedside lamp. Base created from a press-moulded, opalescent and enamelled glass vase, designed by René Lalique, for the Lalique glass factory, Bas-Rhin (Wingen-sur-Moder), France. 1924-33. Factory design number 905 'Vase, Ceylan (8 perruches)'. Converted to a lamp (after leaving the manufacturer) with the addition of a transparent cellophane shade, decorated with budgerigars or parakeets, metal fittings and a flex.
Provenance
Collection William R. Morris, 1st Viscount Nuffield, by bequest to Nuffield College, University of Oxford, 1963, by transfer to National Trust, Nuffield Place, 2011; appears in photographs of interior of Westover House, Sussex, owned by the family before they came to live at Nuffield Place in 1933.
