Cabinet. A rosewood secretaire cabinet with four tapered legs and pedimented top, c1830. Consists of two drawers, one with two metal handles hanging from lions’ heads, the other underneath, the front of which is indented to enable the drawer to be pulled open. Both have key holes. The upper drawer is hinged and pulls sown to form a writing surface. The cabinet above has two glazed doors with keyholes and two shelves in each side. Three small draws inside top drawer, either side of five central areas for holding folded papers. Some damage to the inside frame of left glazed door, with the pieces kept in a plastic bag inside the top drawer.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
