Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, three-quarter-length standing portrait of Courtenay Charles Evan Morgan, 3rd Baron, 1st Viscount, wearing naval uniform and a cloak, (2nd Creation) (1867-1934) by William Mouat-Loudan (London 1868 - London 1925), signed in black, bottom right: MOVAT-LOVDAN, 1924. The label inscription, "Presented to His Worship the Mayor (Councillor C. F. Williams), For the Mayor's Parlour, May 1924". Courtenay, Viscount Tredegar, standing turned slightly to the left. His left hand rests on his sword, and in his right hand, he carries gloves and a bicorne hat. Plain grey background. Within a 19th Century bolection style frame, with elaborately carved corners of flowers and foliage and tongue and leaf on the outer back edge.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
