Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, half-length portrait of Sir Godfrey Charles Morgan, 2nd Baronet 1st Viscount Tredegar (1831-1913) in red military jacket by Hugh Goldwin Riviere (Bromley 1869 - 1956), 1907. Wearing the uniform of the Lord Lieutenant of Monmouthshire, and Crimea medals, turned half right, his right hand resting on papers on the table, his left hand holding the hilt of his sword. He was created Viscount in 1905.
Provenance
Originally part of Tredegar House collection. Purchased from John Morgan's widow, Mrs Yorke, 1974. Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
