Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Keeper Hazell and Spaniels by John Charlton (Bamburgh 1849 - London 1917), initialled bottom left and dated: JC/1904. He is standing, slightly off centre, under a large tree, wearing a green velvet jacket, waistcoat, light-coloured breeches and a black billycock hat. He is surrounded by brown Spaniels. In the middle distance there are deer grazing in the park, and the Gaer Hill fort is in the background. Within water-gilded frame with oak leaf mouldings to outer edge.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
