Summary
Meat cover. An oval, silver-plated Victorian meat dish cover with stag’s head (Morgan crest) motif and gadrooned border to lower edge. Central, ornamental looped handle to top, on an oval fixing plate, with gadrooned border. Small, triangular hanging loop on one side. Silver coating is very worn, revealing brass-coloured base metal. Large dent to the left of the stag’s head.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
