Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, a three-quarter-length portrait of Sir Charles Gould Morgan, 2nd Baronet, MP (1760-1846), seated with legs apart and holding a letter in his right hand, by Henry William Pickersgill, RA (London 1782 – London 1875), circa 1830. With long inscription on label. This, or another painting, was painted for the Equitable Life Assurance Office and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1842 (133). Within a size-gilded Victorian frame, with egg and dart moulding on back edge, acanthus leaf on the site edge, and ribbon and leaf moulding on the outer edge.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
