Summary
Bowl. A good quality ceramic punch bowl, decorated in the Famille rose palette, with two large panels of decoration; the first with a family group looking at a holy man, riding a mule and accompanied by an aide, the second with two horseback figures, servants and a falconer. The panels are divided by two smaller panels with roosters, each surrounded by four smaller panels with monochrome landscapes, within gilt foliate scrolling. The interior of the bowl is decorated with scrolls around the rim and a rose pattern. From the reign of Qianlong 1735-1796, the bowl dates from around 1750. Long crack from rim to base.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
