Summary
One of a series of colour photographic cards showing left and right pages from a small mediaeval book in the collection of The British Museum. The left page shows a section of Latin script with a large decorative drop capital. There is a figure with a sword and shield in the top margin, a figure pulling something out of a conical container in the top left and in the bottom left are a couple playing chess, while a demon bears down on them from above. The right page shows more Latin script with a large decorative drop capital. A man with sword and shield is fighting a lion-like creature, while at the bottom is a reclining woman a dancing dog wearing a cape and a dancing man. Identified at the bottom 'B. 361', 'Chess and its dangers', 'A family dance' 'Stowe MS. 17, ff. 111b-112. Flemish, circ. A.D. 1300. (Actual Size)', 'Published by the Trustees of the British Museum'. On the reverse is 'Printed in England by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London'
