Summary
Floor Tile - Design 8 – This design shows scrolls and a vase below a double band with swags and scorpion tail tips. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). A dull glaze remains over much of the tile with a number of pitted holes with bright glaze. The overall colour of the tile is light grey. The pattern is well defined across the tile with worn areas. There is a 10mm hole in the bottom centre. There is mortar on all the edges.
