Summary
Floor Tile - Design 8 – This design shows scrolls and a vase below a double band with swags and scorpion tail tips. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Whilst the tile is worn it is in good condition with some glaze remaining and has a dull green brown appearance Some of the slip shows wear to base material. The top edge and top right corner are chipped away. There is a horizontal pre-firing scar of 28mm length across the vase.
