Summary

There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Whilst the tile worn it is in good condition with some glaze remaining and has a dull grey green appearance with brown stains. There is a pre-firing scar running from the swag to the lower left scroll of 80mm in length and a 15mm scar at approximately 90degree the top of the major scar.. Some glaze can be seen in the pitted holes across the surface. There is mortar on the ledge edge. There is a chipped area in the centre of the bottom edge.
