Summary
Floor Tile - Design 6 – Initials W and G tied together with a ribbon below a swagged canopy within an arch, the head of which continues. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 7, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Excepting in the upper centre most of the surface glaze has been lost. The whole surface is evenly worn but in the upper left corner and bounding edge the slip is also lost. Mortar remains on the top, left and bottom edges.
