Floor Tile - Design 3 - W S initials either side of a scorpion with dolphins below. Scorpion is very articulated, details of eyes and crease around mouth. Olive green glazed body with a light green/cream inlay. From a collection of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. Part of a carpet with designs 1 (or 2), 6, 7, 8, 28 and 31 (Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Most of the glaze and slip remains, but there is a circular bulbous section in the middle of the tile which has become badly worn.
