Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Henry Vane-Tempest, 2nd Bartt (1771-1813) by Eduard Ströhling (Düsseldorf 1768 - London after 1826), 1807. A full-length portrait, in a black coat, a white waistcoat and stock and knee breeches, a dog to the right. The owner of the celebrated thoroughbred, Hambletonian (1792 - 1818) who won most of his races; his seat was Wynyard Park, Co. Durham, where the horse is buried. The horse is immortalised by George Stubbs in his famous painting, hanging now in its new frame at Mount Stewart.
