Summary
The Richmond Cup: A George III silver-gilt vase-shaped cup and cover on spreading circular foot, the lower part of the body faceted and applied with husks, with reeded leaf-capped bracket handles and applied beneath the lip with a band of scrolling foliage on a matted ground, the spool-shaped cover with beaded borders and horse and jockey finial, possibly later, the body applied with an oval cartouche of a horse race and similar cartouche with presentation inscription: RICHMOND CUP / 1798. / SIR WILLM GERARD BART / and / L. W. HARTLEY ESQR / STEWARDS / WON BY LOP CATCHER Makers' mark: William Pitts and Joseph Preedy, 1798
