Summary
A kingwood, amaranth and ormolu mounted bureau à cylindre, French, circa 1775. Formerly stood in the Drawing Room, Londonderry House, where it was photographed in the 1930s, with Charles, 7th marquess of Londonderry sitting at the desk. It was listed in the 1939 Inventory of Londonderry House for insurance purposes, p63, in the Yellow Drawing Room and valued at £85.0.0. The cross banded quarter-veneered top with three-quarter giltmetal gallery, the banded quarter-veneered cylinder with green-stained border enclosing an interior with two short drawers above a dark blue leather-lined draw-out slide, with five short amaranth-banded drawers with ormolu ribbon-tied oval escutcheons, on amaranth slender squared tapering cabriole legs with ormolu hips and sabots, the sides with draw-out leather-lined slides.
