Vase, black-basalt with gilded decoration, oval swan-handled vase with vermicular pattern, mounted on the back of two winged sphinxes, on a rectangular base with Greek key border. Designed by Wedgwood, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, about 1777, shape no.140 'Brainstone' vase, his version made before 1938.
