Summary
Alabaster on marble base, Queen Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt (69-30 BC) also known as Ariadne. Full-length reclining figure on a grey marble base. After the antique statue, first recorded in 1512 as having been acquired by Pope Julius II from Angelo Maffei and taken to the Belvedere. It is now in the Vatican Museums and regarded as being a copy of the late Hadrianic period of a masterpiece of the Pergamene school, 2nd Century BC.
