Summary
One of a pair of perfume burners with covers. Marble shaped as a classical urn, with ormolu finials and mounts on square bases inset with steel plaques and mounted with drapery swags, on four tortoise and square plinths mounted with interlaced foliate borders on top feet. The cover with an acorn finial. Based on the 'Sphinx' vases now in the Royal Collection. Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) and John Fothergill (1730-1782), Birmingham, England. c.1770-1771.
