Summary
Oil painting on panel, 'A Quiet Half-hour' by Lionel Charles Henley (London 1843 - fl.1863), signed and adted 1876. Full-length of a woman seated in a cane armchair with a red cushion, wearing a high-necked green velvet dress with bands of rouching in the skirt. She is reading a book and has her feet up on a footstool in front of a fender with poker and shovel. Above the mantelpiece is a statuette of the Venus de Milo. Behind her is a Japanese screen with herons and flowers with a frieze of fans across the top and bottom.
