Summary
Bronze on an alabaster, porphyry and red vein marble base, Queen Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt (69-30 BC), also known as Ariadne (after the Antique). A reclining full-length figure, on a rectangular alabaster, Egyptian porphyry and veined red marble base, mounted in ormolu cast and chased as floral garlands and lion masks within rope-twist bborders. The Vatican Cleopatra is catalogued as a copy of the late Hadrianic or early Antoine period of a masterpiece of the Pergamene school dating from the 2nd century BC and originating in the workshop of Dionysos.
