Summary
Cover, part of a Sèvres circular écuelle, cover and stand with entwined handles, soft-paste porcelain, with a blue dot oeil-de-perdrix enclosing a gold dot on a pink ground with medallions roses in wreaths of forget-me-nots around the central medallion of the same flowers, marked with interlaced ‘L’s enclosing the date letters ‘bb’ for the year 1789, and painter’s mark ‘ch’ for Étienne-Jean Chabry, on bowl and stand in blue enamel.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Dutton at Christie’s in October 1961, ‘Sevres circular two handled ecuelle cover and stand, painted in colours with roses, surmounted by garlands of forget-me-nots on a pink oeil de perdrix ground, …’, for £29.8.0. (fol. 147). Claimed from the estate of Ralph Dutton, 8th Baron Sherborne by his sister, Hon. Joane Dutton, 1985. By whom bequeathed to the National Trust for Hinton Ampner House, 1988.
