One of two Paris oviform vases with gilt handles terminating in satyrs heads, the panels painted with figures in romantic landscapes on a tortoiseshell (‘Fond Écaille’) ground, gilt with trophies, on square black marble bases, ca. 1805.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Dutton on November 26, 1952, ‘Pair Sèvres, Paris Vases brown Ecaille ground (1 foot damaged)’, from Joseph William Blanchard (BADA), 48 Jewry, Winchester, for £45. (fol. 51) Paris Exposition Universelle 1900 ? probably a cataloguing error.
