Summary
Wooden box for Toy Magic Lantern by German toy maker Jean Schoenner. (For further information and photographs, see the website link in the General Note below.) Covered in red leather which is badly worn in places exposing the wood. A hinged opening secured by two hooks enables the case to open like a book. There is a small part of a paper label on the box. On the top end is a metal handle. The inside sides are lined with white paper. One side has six small nails with short pieces of ribbon attached that would have originally formed loops for storage. One side has a metal rail and two metal plates, one of which has a hole. This hole is to accommodate the long pin that can be pushed in from the outside of the box to secure the rectangular panoramic slides. On the inside edge of the box are two metal clips to store a wooden framed single circular glass slide - catalogued separately - Inventory No. 1525174.4.
