Summary
A Thornton-Pickard Special Ruby Reflex quarter plate single lens reflex camera, with a Zeiss Tessar f4.5 lens mounted on an interchangeable lens panel, and a 1/10-1/1000 focal plane shutter. The camera is of wooden box construction, covered with black leather, with bellows focussing and a rising front. The camera top is hinged and reveals a self-erecting focussing hood of black leather, looking down onto a full size ground glass screen. The camera has a revolving back, with a removable folding viewing hood. There is a leather carrying strap on the left hand side of the camera Markings; on the lens board, a plate with "Thornton Pickard Special Ruby Reflex" On the lens, "Carl Zeiss Jena Nr. 308731 Tessar 1;4.5 F=18cm. On the right hand side of the camera, a plate with "Pat. No. 6283.12" The logo "TP" is embossed on the camera top. Number "14" is stamped under the camera top. Pencil markings; "72806 CR/CR/4"under the rising front; "69490/CI/N/X" on the revolving back under the removable hood
