Summary
The Ruby Horizontal Reflex Camera was manufactured by the Thornton-Pickard Manufacturing in circa 1923. This camera took 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch exposures on plates for roll film. The camera is constructed of mahogany throughout, covered in fine seal-grained leather with all metal fittings black enameled. The self erecting focusing hood is made of stiffened leather attached to a black polished hinged metal frame. It features a self capping time and instantaneous focal plane shutter, without autostop. Under folding hood a ground glass screen measuring 88mm x 65mm with number 459. Beside this is a white label with with writing partially obscured "Camera Register with .... side downward" Markings - one the outside of the film casing on the back the words "Rollex Patent" Beneath the lens at the front is a plate with "Ruby Horizontal" and TP logo.

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
