Summary
A Kodak no 4 Bullet Special 1898. The body is wooden (cherry) covered with black leather and to the side there is a two stage door giving access to the film holder and the ground glass focusing screen. The format is 4x5 inches and either plates or 113 film can be used. Focusing is by means of a knob to the side of the body and there are integral viewfinders on top and side. The iris aperture ranges f4-f128. The lens is mounted on a brass plate and is inscribed 'Bausch & Lomb Official Rapid Rectilinear'. The plate is stamped 'B.?.I.T. Patent Applied for'. The rear door of the body has 'No 4 Bullet, Special Model of 1898 Manufactured by Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY,U.S.A.. 'Patented May 8 1885 January 12 1897, Other Patents applied for' The addresses of Kodak companies in England, France and Germany are then given. There are tripod mounts on the side and base and a leather carrying handle on the top.
