A Mackenzie-Wishart Daylight Slide. Also known as an envelope adapter, it allowed plates to be loaded in daylight. Constructed of mahogany polished black. Fabric is affixed inside the draw slide, to enable sections to fold when removed. Velvet on closing edge. Brass pressure plate inside. Brass hinges on short side and brass clips to secure closed. Yellow plastic section (approx a third of the length) allows view of inside. Format: 6½" x 4¾" Serial Number stamped inside: 11. Manufacturer's details printed on white disc inlaid into the wood: "Mackenzie-Wishart Daylight Slide, Patent, Glasgow, Mackenzie & Co." In use, the plate (in a plastic & cloth envelope) is placed in the wooden adapter which replaces the normal dark-slide in the camera. As the draw-slide is pulled out so the cloth covering the face of the plate is rolled up and is rolled back when the draw-slide is returned.
