Summary
Sanderson folding plate camera (original model, 2nd version). Black leather covered mahogany body, maroon leather square cornered bellows. Black leather handle. Brass fittings. 3 ¼" x 4 ¼" plates. Ground glass focusing screen - hood damaged/missing. Brilliant finder. Bausch & Lomb Rapid Rectilinear f/8 lens. Unicum shutter. Rising front, tilting front. Markings: Cream coloured plate screwed to standard with gold print: "The "Sanderson". Hand Camera. Patent". Stamped in brass side struts: "Sanderson's Patent" and serial no. 1106.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
