Summary
A set of three double dark slide photographic plate holders for Wizard No. 77B folding plate camera manufactured by Gundlach Manhattan Optical Co, New York. Block form with draw-slides. Wooden holders and black board dark slides. Metal clips to secure slides. 5" x 4" plate size. Each side of the plate holders is numbered: 1 to 6. The plasticised divider inside each holder is a brick-red colour and is marked on one side with "For Wizard Cameras" and on the other is stamped with "Korona". (In 1896 the original Gundlach Optical Company had acquired the Milburn Korona Company, which had added Korona cameras to their range. See General Note below.)
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
