Summary
Rayment's Patent half plate folding field camera by Perken, Son & Rayment with Optimus lens 1887. The camera is finely crafted from mahogany with dovetail joints, red leather bellows and inset brass screws. Screw attachment to baseboard for fixing to tripod. Printed in black on to inset ivory plate on top of camera "MADE BY PERKEN, SON & RAYMENT HATOON GARDEN LONDON" No Rayment's Patent inset plate in baseboard. Front standard carries "OPTIMUS" mark stamped into black stained wood. Sliding lens board with vertical and horizontal movements. Glass focussing screen has 3 hand drawn rectangles in pencil for different plate sizes. Top left side of camera body has a section of wood snapped off and there is a large crack to baseboard.

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986
