Summary
A wooden lidded box for Lyons hand-held stereoscope, and 24 stereoscopic glass slides. Maple or satinwood veneered box with brass hinges, lock and handle. Rectangular black inlay border on lid and front, and circular decoration around keyhole and around mother-of-pearl circular inlay on lid. The box is lined with red velvet and is divided into sections: in the centre is a large section for the body of the stereoscope, with a divider to support the eyepieces. At each side are slots for 12 stereoscopic glass slides, with wooden dividers at each side.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
