Summary
Negretti & Zambra stereoscopic viewer for glass slides. Mahogany body. Automatic slide changing mechanism, lever on side, rack focusing lens. Lid lifts up to access interior. Metal handles on either side of the base. Cupboard section in base with three wooden drawers, each containing four metal slide storage racks. Plaques on front printed in black with "Negretti & Zambra, London" and a long list of instructions for use in French ("Fonctionnement"). Circular plaque on side with metal dial pointer with instructions in French to lower the lever on the right before turning. The dial is printed with numbers from 1 - 25.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
