Summary
A monochrome albumen print on cream coloured card. A copy of a painting, depicting five figures, three seated, two standing. One female three males. Female is passing a beaker to a male, three males smoking. Bottom left is a signature F.Defregger. Recto: below the picture is a small decorated rectangle containing the printed words and numbers '1844 F. Defregger 1883 Die Maler'. Underneath this is printed to the left 'Vervielfaltigung vorbeh' and to the right 'Depose. - Registered'. In the centre underneath is printed 'FRANZ HANFSTAENGL, MUNCHEN' Verso: blank
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection, a gift from the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2017. From 1986-1999, it was part of the BFI’s collection for the Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI). The BFI purchased the collection in 1986 from James Fenton (Fenton Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man (1976-1986)
