Summary
Red set of 52 playing cards, one with the picture of a Norwegian ship at the back and inscription: "det Bergenske dampskibsselskab Bergen (Norw.)". It contains a Goodall&son ace of spade.
Full description
The ship looks like the SS Lyra, bought in 1925 by Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskab (BDS). It operated between Bergen and Iceland until 1939. In May 1940, the SS Lyra managed to make its way over to Britain, and was disposed of by Nortraship during the war. Between 1945 and 1953 she was a replacement ship in hurtigruten on several occasions. Perhaps this card edition celebrates the arrival of the ship in Britain in1940.
