Brass corker or "bouchonneuse" marked "La Merveilleuse" and made in France. It was used by French winemakers to put corks into bottles. The corker compresses the cork, the top is then hit with a wooden mallet and the cork is easily inserted into the neck of the wine bottle.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
